Gaia Backyard Hafjell starts from the sports store at Gaia and heads out on Nysætervegen before following the ski trail towards Pellestova. Here, the climb begins towards the weather radar, which is located 1080 meters above sea level. The route goes around the radar and continues towards the cairn at Hafjelltoppen, before descending through the ski resort back to Nysætervegen, and finally concludes at Vidsyn restaurant and returns to Gaia.
