The Halddemarsjen is a traditional hiking march and uphill race that takes place annually at the end of August. The march starts in Kåfjord - 15 km south of Alta - and ascends to the abandoned northern lights observatory at Halddetoppen, 907 meters above sea level. Participants can choose between a hiking class and a competitive class, and the march follows a relatively good cart road to the summit, approximately 9 km, with an average incline of 10% and a steep finish with a 20% incline in the last kilometer.

Highlights

  • As a participant in the hike, you should allow a minimum of 2-3 hours for the ascent, depending on your own fitness level.
  • The record in the competition class stands at 46.58.
  • The Halddemarsjen was first held in 1984, and GLØD took over the event in 2005.
