It is with great pleasure that we at Svalbard Turn welcome visitors and locals to what we believe is the world's most beautiful running adventure here in Svalbard. The Spitsbergen Marathon was held for the first time in 1994 and has since grown into a large and popular event. The course runs on the roads in and around Longyearbyen, and with its open landscape, the course is considered challenging. At the beginning of June, temperatures are usually above freezing, and the town has a rich wildlife where you might be lucky enough to encounter reindeer, geese, and seabirds.
Highlights
- Runners from all over the world gather to run in the world's northernmost marathon on permanent surface.
- The town is filled with running enthusiasts, and the locals in Longyearbyen cheer for everyone.
- After the race, a banquet is held where you will be served a delicious and calorie-rich meal, while sharing the day's joys and experiences with the other runners.
