The Thursday Run is the largest race in Sarpsborg and is held every Thursday from Easter to Christmas. The race was first organized in its current course in 1985, and in recent years has had between 30 and 40 events annually, with an average of 40 to 50 participants. The course runs through the woods between Grålum and Østfold Hospital in Kalnes, and as tradition dictates, participants wear Santa hats in the last race of the season. The top 30 runners in each race are awarded points according to the World Cup system, which is summarized in the Thursday Cup.
