The Thursday Run is the largest race in Sarpsborg and takes place every Thursday from Easter to Christmas. The race was first held in its current course in 1985 and has had between 30 and 40 events annually in recent years, with an average of 40 to 50 participants. The course runs through the forest between Grålum and Østfold Hospital in Kalnes, and it is a tradition to wear a Santa hat in the last race of the season. Participants are awarded points according to the World Cup system, which is summarized in the so-called Thursday Cup.
