The Mountain Race Veressjøen Rundt, which was first held in 1974, has developed into a popular racing event with significant participation, even though the race was previously only open to runners from Verdal municipality. After a decline in interest in the 1980s, it was revitalized by enthusiasts from Helgådal IL who wanted to build up the "new Veresfestivalen" with a focus on the mountain village's nature and culture. The highlight came in 1995 when ski king Bjørn Dæhlie participated, and the race reached over 1086 participants. Veressjøen Rundt has been a community celebration that has maintained its popularity over the years, with a return to the traditional course around the lake for both recreational and competitive classes.
